This is the original “masterpiece” formula before two decades of IFRA restrictions. The Batch Code (9017): Laser-etched code dating specifically to October 1998, the global launch window for this fragrance. The “No-Band” Cap: Features the ultra-rare original cap design without the fixed silver metallic ring seen on all later versions. The Japanese label features the Ebisu, Shibuya address (恵比寿), which was Chanel Japan’s headquarters only during the late 90s/early 2000s before they moved to Ginza in Dec 2004. This 26-year-old juice has “macerated” into a concentrated extract. It opens with a sharp, spicy punch of ginger and Madagascar pepper-reminiscent of the legendary Gucci Envy for Men. It is darker, woodier, and much more “masculine” than modern versions. The dry down is a deep, resinous sandalwood and amber.
