Collecting rare and classic fragrances requires patience, research, and a keen eye. Unlike modern commercial fragrances, vintage bottles vary wildly in quality based on storage conditions and production year.
Where to Start?
1. **Focus on specific houses**: Concentrate on one or two classic houses (e.g., Guerlain, Chanel, Patou) to build deep expertise.
2. **Learn the concentration types**: Parfum/Extrait, Eau de Cologne (EdC), Eau de Toilette (EdT), and Eau de Parfum (EdP) behave differently over time.
3. **Identify target formulations**: Know which reformulations occurred in which years (e.g., the IFRA restrictions of 2004, 2009, and 2012).
