The Batch Code Paradox

Explaining the repeating nature of batch codes and why automated checkers give false dates.

The Batch Code Paradox

Most collectors rely on websites like *CheckFresh* or *Cosmetic Calculator* to date their bottles. However, for true vintage bottles, **these calculators fail completely**.

The 10-Year Cycle

Major fragrance houses (such as Chanel, Dior, and Guerlain) reuse their batch code sequences every **10 years**.

  • A batch code of `5D01` could represent 2015, 2005, 1995, or 1985.
  • Standard calculators only look at the current 10-year window. Thus, a bottle from 1995 will be incorrectly reported as being made in 2025!

Overcoming the Paradox

To solve this, you must combine the batch code with **packaging clues** (like the green dot, barcodes, and address zipcodes) described in our *Identify Vintage Perfume* guide.
