Collector’s Fact: Why there is NO batch code on the glass or boxFor modern Chanel bottles, buyers look for 4-digit codes laser-etched into the glass. However, this bottle is from the mid-1980s launch era, before Chanel introduced permanent physical engravings or laser-etching technology.During this early production period (1984–1986), Chanel tracked batches using two methods: a non-permanent, fragile colored ink spray on the bottle’s base label, and a very light colorless blind-stamp on the paper box base. Over the past 40 years, these surface markings naturally rub off, fade, and evaporate entirely due to handling and time. In the vintage perfume community, the complete absence of etched glass codes on a pre-barcode 1980s bottle is textbook proof of it being one of the earliest, un-manipulated first-run batches ever produced.
